When you can claim to be the last team to beat a national champion as well as the only team to beat the national champion in the year they won the trophy, you can usually talk a lot of trash. The Virginia Tech Hokies are in that good of a position right now after the beat the Ohio State Buckeyes last season 35-21.
The season panned out pretty well for the Buckeyes as they went on to win the inaugural College Football Playoff and the Hokies barely made bowl eligibility, having to win the final two games to make a bowl. But if you use that logic, the Buckeyes do seem pretty weak losing to a team that went 7-6.
Either way, the Hokies made a seemingly harmless tweet towards the Buckeyes featuring a picture of the August issue of Sports Illustrated with Joey Bosa, Joshua Perry, and Brutus Buckeye all posing with their national championship trophy on Saturday. The Hokies reminded them that their game is just thirty days away, as they play on September 7, and prematurely welcomed them to “SACKSburg.”
The exchange between the two teams that College Spun shared got pretty heated, to say the least.
