After Syracuse lost starting quarterback Terrel Hunt to a torn Achilles, the Orange suffered another setback at the position when freshman Eric Dungey was knocked out by a Central Michigan defensive lineman, who contacted Dungey helmet-to-helmet.
Consequently, Mitch Stanitzek, the one responsible for the illegal hit, was ejected from the game and will likely face suspension.

Thankfully, the impact – initially deemed a head injury – was downgraded to an upper body injury, but that doesn’t rule out his neck, though it was unspecified which region suffered the most damage.
Before the collision, Dungey accrued 143 total yards on offense and two touchdowns.
Eyewitnesses say the Oregon native was seen laughing in the locker room and appears to not be experiencing any serious side effects. But, of course, medical staff will continue to monitor him over the next 24-48 hours.
Though a game that featured Central Michigan shutting out Syracuse for the entire second half, and despite Cooper Rush’s 430-yard performance, Syracuse went on to win in overtime, 30-27, thanks to Jordan Fredericks’ (11 carries, 73 yards, TD) four-yard touchdown.
