Jim Irsay and the Indianapolis Colts have gotten off to a slow start this season and there are quite a few rumors flying around that they could be looking to move on from head coach Chuck Pagano.
These rumors have been picking up since the offseason ended and there is no question that there is some truth to the matter. Pagano was insulted at the last contact extension that the Colts offered him, but Irsay appears ready to look for a big name head coach to lead the Colts forward. Indianapolis has built an extremely talented roster and they need a coach who can help them unlock their full potential.
According to a report from NFL.com, Irsay could be ready to go “big game hunting” when it comes to his next head coaching candidate. He could very well be searching for a big name that will completely change the organization.
Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh are two head coaches from the college ranks that could be of interest. Harbaugh doesn’t seem all that likely to leave Michigan after just one year with his alma mater, but there is a chance that Saban would be open to getting back into the NFL game. Indianapolis would have to offer him a rich contract, but they certainly have the talent to get him interested.
Another potential college coach that could be interested in an NFL job soon is Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin. He could be a perfect fit for the Colts and likely would be easier to get than either Saban or Harbaugh.
David Shaw from Stanford is a possibility as well, but there is always the chance that other coaches around the NFL would do whatever they can to make the move to the Colts.
Indianapolis has one of the most lucrative coaching jobs with budding superstar quarterback Andrew Luck leading the way. They need improvement on the defensive side of the football, but they have the pieces put together to intrigue a potential coaching candidate.
