The third man to help Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose take on the Wyatt family was WWE legend Chris Jericho, who entered the arena to a huge pop. But not even the return of Y2J could stop the Wyatts as the Eater of Worlds’ stable won once again, setting up the feud to continue.
Ambrose and Harper got the ball rolling, with the Lunatic Fringe mounting plenty of speedy and crazy offense before tagging Reigns in. The Juggernaut then tackled Harper and grappled before tagging in the future Hall of Famer, who dove off the top rope to stun Harper before hitting him with some chops and then a cross body slam.
Jericho then tried to set Harper up in the Walls of Jericho, but failed. Reigns then tagged in and tossed Harper to the ropes, who tagged in Black Sheep Braun Strowman. Reigns slapped him twice before escaping Stroman’s grasp and tagging in his longtime friend Ambrose. The two punched him some more before going down courtesy of a double shoulder tackle.
Jericho then tagged in again, only to get thrown out of the ring after Strowman lifted him over his head. The assault continued outside the ring, with Strowman bringing Ambrose back in and having Wyatt tag in.
The action then shifted to Reigns and Harper, with Harper being on the wrong end of a sit-down powerbomb. But Harper kicked out of the pin attempt. Strowman then caused a distraction as Harper Superkicked Reigns, but the Big Dog kicked out before Wyatt tagged in again.
After some more offense, Strowman tagged in again and bodyslammed Reigns to the ground. An assault of Reigns in the corner ensued with multiple men tagging in and out. Even after Reigns rolled out, he was near defenseless as Wyatt had his way with him.
But then Ambrose jumped on Strowman’s back and attempted a sleeper hold, giving Reigns time to recover and beat Wyatt around for a bit before tagging Jericho in again. Y2J then went nuts on the man he feuded with last summer, landing a running Bulldog and then locking the Eater of Worlds in the Walls of Jericho. Just when it looked like Wyatt would tap out, Harper interrupted before Ambrose tagged in and broke out of Wyatt’s Sister Abigail hold. Both got so into it that a double clothesline happened.
Strowman tagged in again as Ambrose tagged in Reigns, and the two went at it before Reigns landed two Superman Punches. Strowman was still up, so Ambrose dove off the top rope for a diving crossbody slam. Strowman was then speared by Reigns and just when it looked like another one would happen, Jericho tagged in to Reigns’ surprise and landed a Lionsault. Strowman kicked out.
Jericho was then lifted onto Strowman’s shoulder, thrown to the ground and then locked in the signature bear hug, with Ambrose and Reigns out of commission after being assaulted outside the ring. Jericho passed out, and the ref called for the bell. Slowly sitting up outside the ring, Reigns looked visibly perturbed as Jericho essentially cost him the match against the man who had been tormenting him since June.
On the whole, this match was great for a couple of reasons. A veteran was brought in to put Strowman over, and then Jericho subsequently went heel after shoulder checking Ambrose on the way out of the ring, despite him and Reigns apparently saying no hard feelings.
This feud is far from over, so fans should definitely stay tuned.
