Janoris Jenkins signs with Giants for 5 years, $62.5 million

Janoris Jenkins has agreed to a five-year, $62.5 million deal with the New York Giants shortly after the NFL Free Agency period officially kicked off. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the deal on Twitter.

A former second-round pick, Jenkins will reportedly receive about $30 million in guaranteed money. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the then-St. Louis Rams and burst onto the scene as a rookie, returning three interceptions for touchdowns and also returning a fumble for a score. For his career, Jenkins has 230 tackles and 10 interceptions, five of which have been returned for touchdowns.

It certainly appears as though Janoris Jenkins made the right call in turning down a five-year, $45 million deal from the Rams before free agency began.

And now Jenkins will provide an immediate upgrade to a Giants defense that ranked dead last in total defense and receiving defense in 2015. He is only 27 years old and set to enter the prime of his career, so Giants fans should be excited.

The Giants still have some holes to fill but in adding Jenkins, they may have just filled the biggest of them all.
