Warren Easton high school (New Orleans, LA) wide receiver Tyron Johnson has named Texas Tech his leader.
Although it is very early in the recruiting process, Johnson wasted no time putting the Red Raiders at the top of his list, announcing the news at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. Following Texas Tech for his services are the LSU Tigers.
Most recruiting experts still believe the Tigers will be the winner when it is all said and done but LSU has had some trouble keeping all of the in-state talent in recent years.
If Texas Tech does indeed land Johnson, it would be a huge acquisition for head coach Kliff Kingsbury and the Red Raiders .
Johnson spoke about his current leader at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge.
“They throw the ball a lot and I want to catch the ball,” Johnson said. “They show me the stats with [Michael] Crabtree and what he did there, so I like that. He’s player kind of like me. So they hope I can do the same things.”
“With LSU, they put wide receivers in the league and Texas Tech really doesn’t do it that much,” Johnson said. “But Texas Tech throws the ball a lot more than LSU. I still want to make sure I know what I want and where I want to be. Right now, though, I’m leaning toward Tech, though.”
Johnson is the No. 6 overall prospect in the country and No. 1 rated wide receiver according to Rivals.com. He is planning to announce his decision in January at the 2015 Under Armour All-America game.
