Weeks after being dismissed from the program, Texas Tech freshman cornerback Nigel Bethel II has been reinstated after a grand jury cleared him of assault charges. The freshman will be suspended for Tech’s first three games of the season against Central Arkansas, UTEP, and Arkansas.
Bethel was involved in a physical altercation with Texas Tech women’s basketball player Amber Battle where video evidence showed Bethel struck Battle during a pick-up game of basketball.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to come back to Texas Tech,” Bethel said in a statement released by Texas Tech. “I take full responsibility for my actions and I would like to let everyone know that this won’t happen again. It’s not who I am and I am sorry for the embarrassment this has caused.
Bethel, a three-star recruit of Booker T. Washington high school in Miami, FL is expected to contribute after his suspension is over.
