The Wake Forest Demon Deacons’ hopes to return to relevance in the Atlantic Coast Conference took another large blow after leading rusher, Dominique Gibson, was suspended from the team for violating undisclosed team rules.
The suspension was announced yesterday by team spokesman Steve Shutt on the eve of newly hired head coach Dave Clawson’s first preseason camp. The sophomore running back rushed for 138 yards on 53 carries and a touchdown during his freshman campaign while also showing great versatility out of the backfield catching eight passes for 87 yards.
The team will now turn to its other featured back, Orville Reynolds, who also starred during spring practices. The length of Gibson’s suspension remains unclear, but more information should surface as Wake Forest continues its uphill battle to the top of the ACC.
