The University of Maryland and Northern Illinois University have agreed to a home and home series for 2020 and 2021. The opening game of the series will be held in College Park before NIU hosts their first ever Big Ten opponent when the series comes to a close in 2021.
The two teams have met only three times in program history with the most memorable match-up being NIU’s stunning upset over the — at the time — 15th ranked Maryland Terrapins in 2003. NIU followed the upset with yet another big win over the University of Alabama earning their first Associated Press ranking in program history.
The scheduling move has been one of several changes NIU has made in hopes of revamping their schedule after a successful 2013 campaign led by Heisman Trophy candidate Jordan Lynch.
