Safety Jalen Mills has not seen his last days donning the purple and yellow of Louisiana State University despite prior reports about the length of the suspension. LSU head coach Les Miles lifted the suspension just before the start of Monday’s first preseason practices. Still, it remains unclear whether the junior safety will miss any game time during the team’s season opener against Wisconsin or beyond.
Mills was suspended indefinitely after allegedly punching a woman in the face and knocking her unconscious on May 4. As the summer unraveled, the charges were lessened to a misdemeanor battery, subsequently persuading Miles to reinstate Mills.
If Mills does miss an extended period of game time, the Tigers will be without one of their key defensive cogs. As just a sophomore, Mills recorded 67 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions while starting all 13 games.
