RB Joe Mixon Suspended For Season

After being charged this past Friday with a misdemeanor assault charge, Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon has been suspended for the 2014 season. Mixon has pleaded not guilty.

Mixon was accused of punching Amelia Rae Molitor, a 20 year old Oklahoma student, back on July 25 at Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe. If convicted, Mixon could face up to one year of jail time.

The university made a statement via their official football Twitter account, @OU_Football.

Mixon was one of the top recruits of the 2014 class and had fans in Norman buzzing about his abilities. He was expected to contribute to what most believe, is a championship contender. The Sooners are ranked No. 4 in the AP preseason poll and are expected to make a run at the national championship this season.

As a senior at Freedom high school (Oakley, California), Mixon rushed for 30 touchdowns.

Oklahoma begins their season without Mixon versus Louisiana Tech on August 30.
