A new deal has been struck between the Mid-American Conference and ESPN. The two sides were in the fifth year of an eight-year contract before agreeing on a 13-year extension that will broadcast the conference until 2026-27. The agreement is reportedly worth $1 million per year, but the exposure for the conference goes much further than any contract.
ESPN will be the exclusive carrier for men’s basketball and football with several games set to be featured during the week. At this point in time, the MAC isn’t considered one of the power conferences and the additional coverage allows MAC schools to increase name recognition and popularity amongst potential recruits. This will be a major tool for the MAC as they hope to compete against the more dominant conferences.
