UConn Names Casey Cochran Starter

Connecticut head coach Bob Diaco ended the quarterback competition Monday after he announced that redshirt sophomore Casey Cochran will take over the reigns at quarterback for the Huskies this season.

Redshirt senior Chandler Whitmer will be No. 2 on the depth chart.  He was the starter for UConn in 2012 and also started the first four games of the 2013 season.

Cochran started the final four games of the 2013 season, leading them to a 3-1 record during that span. He was 111-for- 175, throwing for 1,293 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He set the school record with 461 passing yards in a 45-10 win against Memphis last season and also tossed four touchdowns.

Cochran will lead the Huskies in their season opener versus BYU on August 29.
