Virginia Tech Names Michael Brewer Starting QB

The Virginia Tech Hokies have turned to transfer Michael Brewer to lead the team this season at quarterback.

Brewer, who transferred from Texas Tech, enrolled at Virginia Tech this summer and beat out senior Mark Leal for the starting position.

Leal was expected to be the starter this upcoming season after waiting his turn behind former quarterback Logan Thomas. He failed to seize his opportunity and had a disappointing performance in last year’s Sun Bowl, throwing for only 130 yards and two interceptions.

Brewer will have to adjust to the Hokies’ pro-style offense after playing mostly in the spread offense at Texas Tech.

He will see his first action next Saturday when the Hokies take on William & Mary.
