Marshall Morgan Ties 30-year Standing SEC Record

Have you ever tied a 30-year standing SEC record and had no one notice? I bet not. Marshall Morgan did though.

Overshadowed by Georgia’s stellar new defense and dynamic offense, little recognition was given to Marshall Morgan for tying the SEC record for most consecutive field goals. Fuad Reviez, the former Tennessee kicker, set the record thirty years ago. In thirty years no one has scored more than eighteen consecutive field goals.

Morgan tied that record Saturday on a 27-yard boot with 11:27 left in the third quarter, giving the Bulldogs the 24-21 lead.

After the game I asked Morgan if he knew that field goal would be tying the record, he responded, “not in the moment, but [after] I remembered someone mentioning it at the end of last season.”

Last season, Morgan made 22-24 field goals, including a 56-yard field goal against Tennessee.

Morgan has the chance to become first kicker in the SEC to complete 19 consecutive field goals September 13 when the Dawgs play South Carolina in Colombia.

Marshall says he’s excited to possibly break the record but he’s “just going to stay on his same routine and if that happens to break a record, then great!”
