Just days before the Iowa State Cyclones square off against (20) Kansas State, starting right tackle Jacob Gannon has decided to leave the team. The three time All-academic Big 12 selection cited personal reasons as the main indicator for his decision according to team spokesman Mike Green.
A season ago, Gannon started eight games and was a key part of the offense for a team that struggled to a 3-9 year. After last week’s 34-14 loss to North Dakota State, things don’t appear to be getting much better for a Cyclones team that’s yet to begin their Big 12 schedule.
Head coach Paul Rhodes will now look to highly touted redshirt freshman Jake Campos for Saturday’s game against the Wildcats. It remains unclear what specifically affected Rhodes’ decision, but it leaves big shoes for Campos to fill.
