Illinois PG Tracy Abrams Will Miss 2014-15 Season

Illinois starting point guard Tracy Abrams will miss the entire 2014-15 season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee.  The injury occurred during preseason drills on Thursday and Abrams will spend the year as a medical redshirt.  The timetable for the operation and recovery has not been determined, but Abrams hopes he will return for his senior year in 2015-16.

Abrams was second on the team in scoring averaging 10.7 points per game and led the team in assists with 3.2 per contest.

“Tracy worked hard in the offseason to put himself in great position heading into his senior year, so he’s obviously disappointed and we are for him as well,” head coach John Groce said.

The Fighting Illini will look to Oregon State transfer Ahmad Starks to fill the void left by Abrams’ injury.  Starks was very productive during his sophomore campaign with the Beavers averaging 10.4 points and 2.3 assists per game.
