USC Hires Former Major Leaguer Chris Duffy

The University of Southern California has hired former Pittsburgh Pirate Chris Duffy as a volunteer assistant coach.

Over the course of Duffy’s major league career, he spent three years with the Pirates (2005-2007) and had a short stint with the Milwaukee Brewers. In 791 Major League plate appearances, Duffy compiled a batting average of .262, an on-base percentage of .323, a slugging percentage of .352, and 52 RBI. During Duffy’s rookie season with the Pirates in 2005, he finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting as he ended the season with a .341 batting average in 39 games.

Prior to being hired at USC, Duffy served as an assistant coach at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, AZ for two seasons. at South Mountain, Duffy’s duties included coaching the outfielders, coaching first base, and helping with the recruiting process.

As a student-athlete, Duffy spent two seasons at South Mountain before transferring to Arizona State for a season where he was named to the All-Pac 10 first team. Duffy joins a Trojan program that leads D-I college baseball with 12 national titles, six more than the runner up programs Louisiana State, and the University of Texas.
