(3) Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced redshirt freshman running back Tyren Jones will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after undergoing surgery on his finger. His timetable to return is unknown, but Saban noted that he would miss “several weeks.”
Jones, a Georgia native, was a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com. He was the 11th ranked running back in the class of 2013 and 79th overall.
The Crimson Tide are loaded in the backfield, featuring the likes of Derrick Henry, T.J. Yeldon, and Kenyan Drake, so this injury will not sting as much. Yeldon and Henry have been rock solid, forming a very dangerous two-headed monster in Saban’s backfield.
Jones made an appearance in the last three games and mustered 89 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.
Saban also stated that offensive lineman Grant Hill is dealing with an illness, and could miss this weekend’s contest.
“We’re trying to help him get well, and we’ll see when he’ll be back and be able to contribute to the team,” said Saban. “But he’s very questionable for this game based on what he’s missed so far.”
Alabama is off to another great start which is nothing new to college football fans. After having a week off, the Crimson Tide are ready to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford this Saturday.
Last season, they shutout the Rebels in convincing fashion, 25-0.
Alabama leads the all-time series 47-9-2 and has won the last ten overall.
The Tide and Rebels will face off this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
