“Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Isn’t that why you are here?” This is a famous quote from the movie Gladiator. Honestly, one of the best movies ever made if you ask me. But I am not here to discuss the best movies of all time; I am here to talk about the famous USC pre-game tradition.
The reason I refer to this quote is because many college football fans believe that USC’s pre-game tradition is a copy of FSU’s Osceola and Renegade. Even though it is quite similar, it is not the same tradition. The gameday custom entails Tommy Trojan riding his horse (Traveler) to the field at the end of the USC’s pregame ceremony, to deliver the drum major a sword to plunge at midfield. From what I saw from the YouTube videos, it looked as if it brought a stimulating energy to the stadium – similar to the one I addressed with Osceola and Renegade. All the USC fans stand up in excitement as soon as Tommy Trojan enters the stadium.
So for all you college football fans who love Ancient Rome and want to see an amazing pre-game tradition, visit the University of Southern California and check out a home game! And to answer the question from the beginning of this article, yes I am entertained Russell Crowe, yes I am.
