Stanford DL Aziz Shittu To Miss Significant Time

Stanford Cardinal starting defensive lineman Aziz Shittu will miss, at minimum,  Saturday’s game against Arizona State.

The loss of Shittu is a major absence along a defensive line facing one of their toughest tests of the season, the Arizona State Sun Devils.  Shittu’s injury reportedly occurred during a non-contact drill in a recent practice, and the severity of the injury remains unclear which is not a promising sign.

Sources have hinted that Shittu could miss the remainder of the season.

“We’ll see how the rehab goes.  We were excited about where he was headed,” said head coach David Shaw.

Despite missing the opener, the sophomore has played a major role in the last five games collecting 14 tackles and a sack, on top of being listed as the team’s co-starter.

Blake Lueders will replace the former five-star recruit, along with true freshman Harrison Phillips who could play a larger role.  Stanford currently sits at 4-2, and face a key test against the 4-1 Sun Devils.  The game plays a major role not only in the rankings, but the Pac-12 as well.  Arizona State enters the matchup with the ninth-ranked passing attack, paired with the 29-ranked rushing offense, a dangerous matchup for the Shittu-less defense.
