QB Trevor Knight Ruled Out For Oklahoma

Despite reports that the Oklahoma Sooners may have starting quarterback Trevor Knight this weekend; head coach Bob Stoops dispelled any rumors that the sophomore could return against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Knight will miss Saturday’s contest due to a concussion suffered in the fourth quarter of the team’s horrific loss 48-14 to the Baylor Bears. After being driven to the turf, Knight was left disoriented and motionless before being carted off of the field – a scary scene for Sooner fans. Later in the day, however, Knight was seen exiting the Oklahoma locker room and coach Stoops elected not to unveil the specifics surrounding the injury.

“He’s pretty sore right now, it’s just being able to manage it,” Stoops said Monday. “We’ll just see how he continues to respond but it [the injury] isn’t to the head.”

Stoops had all media outlets guessing over Knight’s status, but finally announced the report this morning. In his first season at the helm, Knight has thrown for 2,197, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Throughout the season, Knight has been extremely streaky. He has been showing signs of brilliance while also raising eyebrows with poor decision making. Still, with two years to grow, Knight has a bright future as a Sooner.

In Knight’s absence, redshirt freshman Cody Thomas will make his first collegiate start against a Red Raiders defense that has been known to surrender lots of points in typical Big 12 fashion. In the past two games, Texas Tech has allowed 82 and 34 points respectively, providing Thomas with an excellent opportunity to make a statement to Oklahoma fans. The Sooners enter Saturday’s game having lost two of their last three contests and dropped out of the Top 25 for the first time in quite a while.

Coach Stoops needs a win from his squad among their two very winnable games remaining against Kansas and Oklahoma State.
