The No. 12 ranked Kansas State Wildcats won big on the road in Morgantown against West Virginia, 26-20. The Wildcats are now in a first place tie with TCU in the Big XII. Kansas State was coming off a brutal loss against No. 5 ranked TCU and needed to secure this win against the Mountaineers in order to get a share of the Big XII Title.
In Thursday’s Big XII match up, Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters’ threw for a career-high 400 yards and had the game he had hoped for which put West Virginia away. Senior WR Tyler Lockett came up big for the Wildcats and returned a punt for a touchdown before the half to put the Wildcats up by 14. Despite a late run by the Mountaineers, Kansas State found a way to leave Morgantown with a victory.
After K-State won, Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder was still frustrated.
“I think they did do what they had to do to win the ball game. They’re pleased about that and I certainly don’t want to take that away from them. We didn’t have the discipline that we’ve come to count on so much.”
West Virginia made a run in the second half but fell short on their Senior Night. The Mountaineers have lost three straight and need to snap that losing streak in order to get to a respectable bowl game.
Kansas State still has two remaining games against Kansas and Baylor. This is where things get interesting.
The Baylor Bears still have a chance to make it a three-way tie for first place in the Big XII if they win today at home against Oklahoma State. If Baylor and Kansas State continue to win, the matchup between the two teams on Dec. 6 in Waco, Texas has a lot more at stake.
TCU is idle this week but also has two remaining games against Texas and Iowa State. Things could get very interesting if TCU were to lose one of their remaining games. It certainly is a possibility against a much improved Texas Longhorns team.
Three teams remain in the hunt for a piece of the Big XII Title. No. 5 ranked TCU has only one loss against No. 7 ranked Baylor. Things are stirring up in conference play and no one can tell who exactly is going to get a piece of the Big XII Title just yet.
