Top Recruit Daylon Mack Decommits From Texas A&M

Following a disappointing finish to the 2014 campaign, the Texas A&M Aggies have received even more upsetting news in the early goings of the off-season as five-star outside linebacker Malik Jefferson selected the Texas Longhorns over the Aggies. Then, just hours later, Daylon Mack, the No. 15 ranked recruit, decommitted from Texas A&M and cited LSU and TCU as his new top two schools.

Mack released the news via Twitter saying,

“I have decommitted from Texas A&M and I will be releasing my top two schools around noon Saturday!”

In just 24 hours, the Aggies have lost two key recruits and head coach Kevin Sumlin must find a way to rebuild his program. Meanwhile, the five-star recruit has taken an official visit to TCU and is set to visit LSU on Jan. 16. Mack will make his final decision in the coming weeks.

The Tigers and Horned Frogs stand on level ground according to Mack and scouts feel Mack’s skill set would be a great fit for both teams. Still, LSU has a loaded recruiting class and playing time could come at a minimum for Mack. On the other hand, Mack could chang the entire landscape of a Horned Frogs team that landed just outside of the inaugural College Football Playoff.

In his three varsity seasons playing at Gladewater High (Texas), Mack has racked up an outstanding total of 241 tackles, 89 of which were for a loss, and 20 sacks. According to the ESPN 300, Mack is the third rated defensive tackle and has the ability to dominate opposing lineman on any given play. Texas A&M originally offered Mack in 2012, and the decision to move away from the school came as a major surprise.
