Treon Harris Cited For Driving Without License

Despite a new head coach, the same problems continue to bother the Florida Gators football program as starting quarterback Treon Harris is facing a misdemeanor charge for allegedly driving a vehicle without a valid license. Harris has never been awarded a license and was cited, Tuesday, for the violation.

Harris was pulled over at approximately 11:29 with two other players- Jalen Tabor and J.C. Jackson- in the car. Police reported an apparent odor of marijuana coming from the car and eventually found a small bag of marijuana. Since the vehicle didn’t belong to any of the members in the car, however, they could not be charged with possession of the drugs. Nonetheless, each of the players may await possible sanctions from the school.

In the meanwhile, the Gators continue to prepare for their Jan. 3 Birmingham Bowl appearance against East Carolina, and team spokesperson Steve McClain said the status of each of the three players has not changed.  Harris, who took over for Jeff Driskel early in the season, has started five games throwing for 896 yards, seven touchdowns and just three interceptions. His ability to manage games allowed him to win the job and led the Gators to a 5-3 record in the games he has played.

On the other hand, Tabor played in 11 games this season- starting four- and collecting 28 tackles and two sacks. Tabor has past run-ins with the law regarding marijuana possession and a second offense could be detrimental to his status on the team. Jackson, the third person in the car, has appeared in just one game all season long.

Harris, Tabor, and Jackson each could be suspended for their roles in the incident and further sanctioning should be handed down in the coming days.
