The SEC announced the Players of the Week on Monday morning. Georgia’s J.J. Frazier was named Player of the Week and Kentucky’s Devin Booker picked up his fourth Freshman of the Week award.
Frazier, a 5-foot-10 guard, picks up SEC honors for the first time. The sophomore guard has averaged 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals the past two games, helping Georgia clinch two SEC wins against Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He had a career-high night in Starkville Saturday, scoring 37 points against Mississippi State, which is also a conference high this season.
No one has scored 37 points for the Bulldogs since Hall-of-Famer Dominique Wilkins did it back in 1981. Frazier went 12-for-14 on field goal attemps and 7-for-7 on 3-pointers, which are also career highs. His efforts helped Georgia (13-5, 4-2 SEC) win their fourth straight conference game and the Bulldogs now sit tied for second place in conference standings.
Booker is no stranger to SEC honors with this being his third consecutive award and fourth this season. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 12 points with 1.5 rebounds and a pair of assists per game in conference wins against Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Although he only scored six points against Vanderbilt, he had a career-high of four assists while leading the team with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting at South Carolina. His efforts helped the Wildcats stay No.1 in the rankings and a perfect 19-0 overall record.
