The start of February is a heck of a time to be biting your nails if you are a team on the bubble heading into the final stretch of regular season play.
Such is the case on Saturday evening, as two Big 12 teams square off for a defensive contest when the Longhorns host the Bears down in Waco, TX.
No. 19 Texas and No. 20 Baylor are both 3-4 in conference play, but their similarities don’t stop there. As ESPN.com points out, both programs are rebounding phenoms on both side of the ball. The visiting Longhorns lead the conference with an average of 42.3 boards per game, while Baylor is ranked second in the Big 12 with 41.2 rebounds and a whopping 15.9 of them on offense.
So basically, if we get an actual basketball-game-type score in this one, it will be a miracle.
Because outside of that, neither team is all that consistent, and we can only guess as to how they will match up, given that this is their first bout of the season. Baylor does have history in their favor, as they are 11-1 playing at Ferrell Center with their last loss–a 56-55 back breaker against Kansas–occurring on Jan. 7.
The Longhorns, on the other hand, are coming off back-to-back losses to Kansas and Iowa State. However, they have won the last three regular season meetings against the Bears.
Tip off for this game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Eastern time.
