While other SEC schools have been grabbing headlines, the Mississippi State Bulldogs quietly snagged one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects in Leo Lewis. The four-star recruit has been a top 100 prospect from the very start and is currently seen by many as the top inside linebacker in the entire recruiting class.
Lewis had previously committed to Alabama and Ole Miss, but ultimately decided Mississippi State was the right fit. The Mississippi native sports ideal size and speed for the position and has the complete package to becoming a dominant linebacker. If he’s able to improve in pass coverage, he should be an every down linebacker capable of making sideline-to-sideline plays.
In 2014, the Bulldogs defense struggled as a unit, and Lewis could be the type of instant impact player Mississippi State has needed. If for some reason Lewis is unable to contribute right away, expect him to develop into one of the best linebackers in the nation by the time he’s a junior and senior.
