Super Bowl XLIX: My Top 5 Commercials

The Super Bowl is highly watched because it’s one of the biggest sporting events each year, but the new commercials aired even attracts non-football fans. There is so much buildup as to whether they’re going to be hilarious or just plain awful. There was a mixture of both this year.

There were a bunch to choose from, but here are my top-five Super Bowl commercials:

5. Avocados from Mexico

Former NFL players Jerry Rice and Doug Flutie are holding the first ever draft and provide their humorous commentary. The US selected wheat, Madagascar took the lemur, Brazil went with the sloth and Mauritius traded for the Dodo Bird. It then leads to the commentators saying Mexico picks, “those green berries,” also known as avocados. It was definitely a cute and funny way to get people to know more about avocados.

4. Always Like a Girl

This commercial did a great job of empowering women. It is one of the few that stood out to me by sending a positive message to both women and young girls. By creating this outlook on who they should be shows females everywhere they must think of themselves as strong and brave, while not letting what others say change who you are or what you want to be.

3. Esurance

Bringing back Breaking Bad’s Walter White made for a surprising celebrity surprise. He was cast as a substitute pharmacist, making drug remarks that can be tied back to the TV show. Breaking Bad fans undoubtedly enjoyed this. Even if you don’t watch the show, you knew who he was and it gave you a little chuckle.

2. Snickers

The “You’re not yourself when you’re hungry” campaign uses celebrities and professional athletes and turns them into the complete opposite of who they are and how they’re viewed. This time, Snickers had the brilliant idea to create the world of The Brady Bunch. Danny Trejo plays the angry version of Marsha Brady while Steve Buscemi plays an upset Jan Brady. Not only did I have no idea what the commercial was for when it started, I laughed hysterically once I realized. This is the best commercial Snickers has done so far.

1. Budweiser

For the past few years, Budweiser has made some great commercials involving the relationship between a horse and a puppy. They pull at your heartstrings and it’s impossible for tears not to stream down people’s faces. From the horse being taken away and the puppy chasing after it, Budweiser made this a fan favorite again for 2015.
