Wisconsin’s Tanner McEvoy Practicing at WR and Safety

Spring practice is off and running around the country and this is usually the time coaches will tinker with the rosters they have assembled.

For first year Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst, this is the perfect time to experiment with certain players and the positions they play.

Insert Tanner McEvoy.

McEvoy has been a proven commodity since arriving in Madison and has played multiple positions on both sides of the ball.

It appears he will be changing positions once again and was seen playing safety during the Badgers’ first practice.

Coach Chryst has not ruled on McEvoy staying on the offensive side of the ball either and will evaluate his wide receiver skills as well in the coming weeks. Chryst recruited McEvoy when he was the Badgers’ offensive coordinator.

“He’s a guy who’s got some pretty special abilities,” said Chryst. “He can contribute in a lot of ways to this team. For us to be a good team — to get the most out of this team — we need production out of him.

The talented junior started the first five games at quarterback for Wisconsin during the 2014 season but ultimately lost the starting job to Joel Stave. Stave sits atop Wisconsin’s depth chart and it appears that will not change for the foreseeable future after posting an 8-1 record in 2014.

In 2014, McEvoy threw for 709 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. He also showed off his athleticism, rushing for 574 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

The Badgers are coming off an impressive 11-3 campaign but will have to replace one of the best running backs that college football has ever seen in Melvin Gordon. Gordon rushed for 2,587 yards and 29 touchdowns and finished his college career with 4, 915 yards and 45 touchdowns.

The Badgers open up the 2015 season against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
