The Knoxville News-Sentinel
is reporting that Tennessee Volunteers junior wide receiver Von Pearson has been identified as a suspect in an alleged rape that was reported early this morning, per the Knoxville PD.
The incident allegedly took place at a university apartment.
This is the second time in less than a year that the program has been involved in a rape investigation, with former linebacker A.J. Johnson and defensive back Michael Williams having charged with aggravated rape back in November. They both pleaded innocent in March.
A junior college transfer, Pearson reeled in 38 catches for 393 yards and a team best five touchdowns. He helped the Vols go 7-6 in the team’s second season under head coach Butch Jones, and Tennessee also managed to defeat Iowa in the TaxSlayer Bowl for its first bowl win since 2008.
Pearson led all receivers with seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown in the game and at 6-foot-3, 181 pounds, was expected to have an even larger role his senior year.
