La’el Collins to Meet With Police, Will Not Attend Draft

Former LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins will fly to Baton Rouge from Chicago this week and meet with local police, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

29-year-old and mother-to-be Brittany Mills, Collins’ ex-girlfriend, was shot to death on Friday night, according to Baton Rouge police. Collins is not currently a suspect in the shooting, but police wish to question him so that he can both clear his name and potentially assist in the investigation.

His attorney, Jim Boren, commented to ESPN.

“We took the investigation seriously,” Boren said. “We’ve tried to rule him out as a suspect. We’re going to provide that information to the police, and ultimately (Collins) will sit down and talk to them. But the timing is poor.”

A 6-foot-4, 305 pound offensive lineman, Collins is projected to be a first round pick in tomorrow’s draft. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has him at No. 42 on his final big board and Todd McShay has him projected as going to the Detroit Lions with the 23rd pick in his latest mock draft.
