With Winston and Mariota projected to be the top two selections in the draft (even if we don’t know who’s picking at number two), the third overall selection is up in the air.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected Blake Bortles last year at number three overall, are reportedly torn between pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr. (Florida) and wide out Amari Cooper (Alabama).
GM Dave Caldwell apparently wants the polished pass catcher while head coach Gus Bradley, who comes from Seattle and their vaunted defense, wants the hard working Fowler.
It’s normal for teams to be torn between selections considering that jobs are on the line with every draft pick, but most would seem to side with Bradley on this one.
Jacksonville needs a spark on the defensive side of the ball and a great mind like Bradley could turn Fowler into a Pro Bowl type player.
This year’s wide receiver class is very deep and the Jaguars have a selection early in the second round. That could be a prime spot to find a weapon for Bortles, someone like Phillip Dorsett out of Miami or Nelson Agholor out of USC.
Either way we will find out what the Jaguars are doing in approximately eight hours.
