Jameis Winston has given an explanation regarding his posting and subsequently deleting a picture of him posing with crab legs last night. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported the story.
Regarding his reason, Winston kept it simple.
“That photo, I had to thank Capt. Keith [Colburn] from The Deadliest Catch and that was just a thank you to him,” Winston said. “It was a big moment for my family that we got to share with each other. I would just like to thank him for donating those crab legs to our party.”
“I wasn’t thinking what would come from it,” Winston said. “I was just showing thanks to a dear friend of mine that I was blessed to have him provide the party for my family with the crab legs.”
Be that as it may, it was still a bonehead move by the first overall pick. Keep in mind, Winston was cited for shoplifting crab legs from a Tallahassee Publix a year ago, and later said that they were a gift from a store employee.
While the intentions behind the picture may have been good, the timing was way off and was not the first impression he should have made after being selected first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hopefully, this is the first and last gaffe of Winston’s NFL career.
