The Oakland Raiders have shored up their pass rush and selected Florida State defensive end Mario Edwards, Jr. with the 35th overall pick. The team now has an edge player who can immediately make an impact after finishing second to last in team sacks last season.
Edwards only had three sacks for the Seminoles last season, but has solid size for the position at 6’3″, 294 pounds. He needs to work on his burst and explosiveness as well as how to use his hands more effectively, but he’ll have a great mentor on Oakland’s defensive line in Justin Tuck.
So long as Edwards stays in shape and is open to coaching, keeping his head in the game from Day 1, this pick could give Oakland a great return on investment.
