Former Oregon Guard Dominic Artis Commits to UTEP

Former Oregon Ducks guard Dominic Artis has committed to join the UTEP Miners. Felix Chavez of the El Paso Times reported the story.

Artis was dismissed from Oregon’s basketball program a year ago, along with teammates Damyean Dotson and Brandon Austin. It was later revealed that all three young men were the subject of a sexual assault investigation, though no charges were filed.

In his time with the Ducks, the 6’1″, 186 pound Artis averaged 6.4 points and 2.7 assists per game while making 36.2 percent of his field goal attempts. He spent this past season at Diablo Valley Community College, though he did not play basketball for them. In spite of the scrappy point man’s absence, Oregon went 26-10 (13-5 Pac 12) and made it back to the NCAA Tournament, losing to Wisconsin in the Round of 32.

Artis will now join a UTEP Miners squad that has done well in Conference USA, but has yet to make an NCAA tournament since 2010, when Tony Barbee was head coach. In five years under current coach Tim Floyd, the team has gone 93-62 (53-29 C-USA). Hopefully, Artis is the missing piece of the puzzle that can get them over the hump.
