The Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team has landed a big commitment.
On Saturday, reports surfaced that top JUCO prospect Evelyn Akhator of Chipola, the reigning NJCAA D1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, had chosen the Kentucky team as the landing spot to continue her college career.

“They have a great academic program,” Akhator said, via the Jackson County Floridian. “The players will be graduating with me and I feel that’s the right place God wants me to be.”
Akhator averaged 21.2 points, 16.7 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.9 blocks last season.
She was the nation’s leading rebounder and helped her team land their first ever national championship last season.
At Kentucky, Akhator will be joining a team that reached the second round of the 2015 NCAA women’s basketball tournament. If she can bring the same success to Lexington that she had at Chipola, Akhator could be a piece of the puzzle that helps the Wildcats get over the hump.
