When a Heisman winner’s ex coach calls him an embarrassment to his university some backlash is without question. Seminole’s safety from 2006-08, Myron Rolle addressed Bobby Bowden’s comments on the Heisman winner and first overall pick, Jameis Winston via tweet earlier this morning.
I didn't think Jameis was an embarrassment to FSU. Neither did the cheering 80K in Doak. You'd like him too if you met him. #GoNoles

When taken out of context yes, calling Winston an embarrassment to FSU is harsh. But within the context of the quote, Bowden’s comments aren’t all that outlandish.
Didn’t Winston do some pretty embarrassing things at FSU? Stealing crab legs, yelling derogatory terms toward women from a lunch table, a sexual assault scandal… sure he contributed positively in many other ways with a National Championship and Heisman, but that doesn’t mean those actions should be ignored.
In the end, this is more of a headline than story line. Bowden didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know.
Could have Bowden’s comments been delivered a little less abrasively? Yes, but that doesn’t mean we need to pretend that Winston was a model citizen during his time at FSU.
