New Chargers running back, Melvin Gordon was an absolute star at Wisconsin. He’s the owner of every major rushing record at Wisconsin and was a Heisman finalist last year after rushing for 2,587 yards and a stunning 29 touchdowns.
It seems as though Gordon is going to miss his time as a Badger and most of all his teammates in Madison. Yesterday, Gordon posted a heartfelt good bye to his teammates via Instagram, stating “I’m always gon’ be there.”
It’s clear where Gordon’s heart lies, but just as clear is the Charger’s hopes for him. San Diego moved up just two spots in the draft, giving up multiple picks to ensure the Badger’s standout would end up in their backfield.
Gordon’s talent certainly isn’t a question mark, however the recent trend of multiple running back backfields seen in the NFL leads some to believe that running backs (even of Gordon’s caliber) simply aren’t worth first round selections.
We’ll see if Gordon lives up to his first round hype.
