With Michael White heading to Gainesville to coach the Florida Gators, current and former Louisiana Tech players were calling for assistant coach Dusty May.
May decided to join White at Florida, but the athletes found out their new coach late Saturday night as former Miami assistant Eric Konkol will take over the job this week.
Konkol has worked multiple years with Jim Larranaga, both at Miami and George Mason, and has had plenty of input as one of the lead assistants.
Louisiana Tech finished last season 27-9, falling just short of the NCAA Tournament despite winning their third straight Conference USA title.
According to CBS Sports, there were three other candidates for the job including Oklahoma assistant Steve Henson, Baylor assistant Jerome Tang and North Florida’s Matt Driscoll.
