Lucas Siewert De-Commits From Arizona State

The Arizona State Sun Devils have a lot to be excited about in new head coach Bobby Hurley, but they’ll have to continue that excitement knowing that they may not have one of their 2016 recruits. Lucas Siewert, a three-star Brazilian forward out of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, has de-committed from the program and will reopen his recruitment. Scott Phillips of NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk reported Siewert’s decision.

Unfortunately, Siewert is not the first recruit the Sun Devils have lost recently. 2016 four-star guard Brendan Bailey and 2017 recruit Markus Howard both de-committed this spring, shortly after longtime coach Herb Sendek was fired.

That group now includes Siewert, who has also received offers from Boston College, California, Creighton, Texas Tech, Utah State and Tulsa. Campus Sports will update his decision as more details become available.

In its final season under Sendek, Arizona State went 18-16 (9-9 Pac-12) and lost in overtime to Richmond in the second round of the NIT. The program can now look forward to having Hurley run the show, as he led Buffalo to a 23-10 (12-6 MAC) record last year and its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, where the team lost to West Virginia in the Round of 64.
