Army and Navy will not reschedule annual meeting

The annual Army-Navy game will not be rescheduled to satisfy the College Football Playoff schedule for weekly rankings and bowl announcements.

“We have no intention of moving it. None,” Navy athletics director Chet Gladchuk told Paul Myerberg of USA Today. “It would show that we’ve realigned our priorities in a way that doesn’t complement our mission. We can’t do it. It’s something that’s that special.”

Every season, the Army Black Knights and Navy Midshipmen go head-to-head on the Saturday after championship weekend. Without any other games taking place, the Army-Navy game gets the national attention that it should.

If the scheduling leads to complications with Navy’s eligibility to land in a bowl game as a member of the American Athletic Conference, it will be well worth it to have kept a long-standing tradition in place.
