Austin Kafentzis leaves Wisconsin after one spring

-

True freshman quarterback Austin Kafentzis has had a short career with the Wisconsin Badgers. After spending just one spring under head coach Paul Chryst, Kafentzis has decided to transfer from the program.

According to reports, Chryst did not view Kafentzis as a legitimate quarterback option but he did have interest in the player at another position.

Kafentzis decided it was ultimately just best to move on.

Joel Stave will be Wisconsin’s starter in 2015, with redshirt junior Bart Houston, redshirt freshman D.J. Gillins and freshman Alex Hornibrook providing depth.

As for Kafentzis, he will be forced to sit out for one season if he transfers to another FBS program because of NCAA transfer rules.

One potential landing spot for Kafentzis will be the Oregon State Beavers, who are now under the direction of former Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen, who reportedly has strong ties to the quarterback.

  1. Too bad, while others in spring game were showing athletic moves he completed touch passes. Something not seen in Wisconsin since Russell Wilson. Christ didn’t recruit him and obviously couldn’t have him showing up one of his recruits. Athletes are asked to be selfless and do what is best for the team. Too bad coaches don.t have the same agenda..
