Austin Bowl will not be played this season

Earlier this year, it was reported that there would be new bowl games played in Austin, Tucson and Orlando. However, the Austin Bowl has been put on hold until 2016, according to reports that surfaced on Wednesday.

While there is one less bowl game this year — thankfully — we still will see a majority of programs playing in the postseason.

The Austin Bowl was without a title sponsor for the game and that is believed to have played a part in the bowl committee putting the game on hold until next season.

“We applaud their courage to explore it and have the courage to step back and make sure they had it right,” said Wright Waters, executive director of the Football Bowl Association, in a statement.

“They can come back in a year to organize and reach out to key individuals in the community. It will be better in every way a year from now.”
