Gators brag about attendance, take shot at Florida rivals

So maybe the Gators aren’t the best football program in the state of Florida. They are, however, the most popular. And, like a character inspired by “Mean Girls” it is important that everyone knows just how popular they are.

Wednesday afternoon, the Gators posted an infograph to their Instagram account Wednesday to do just that.

The picture brags about how much better their home attendance outdid that of Florida State and University of Miami during the 2014 season. It chronicles the average 85,834 that packed into the Swamp to watch the Gators on Saturdays, compared to the 82,211 averaged for the Seminoles and the 52,518 averaged for the U.

Now, CollegeSpun points out that Florida State’s venue, Doak Campbell Stadium, only holds a capacity of 82,300. So in all fairness, they averaged a sell-out for the season without the space to reach Florida’s attendance numbers anyways.

Still, such factoids didn’t stop the Gators from playing the “cool kids pull a bigger crowd” card. As Gretchen Wieners would say: “…but I can’t help it that I’m popular.”
