Oklahoma State is one of just three teams from the Big 12 teams in the 64-team field, and seem to be everyone’s pick as a host to lose in Regional Weekend.
The Cowboys have not exactly impressed this season, as the Big 12 was basically a two-team league all year between them and TCU. And OSU will be put to the test by the teams that are coming to Stillwater.
The team that I like to come out of this regional are the 2-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks. The Hogs have picked up series wins against the likes of Texas A&M and Ole Miss this season on their way to a 17-12 SEC record.
Not to be overlooked though is 3-seed Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles are 41-14, and have already beaten Oklahoma State this season in both of their meetings. ORU has a team batting average of .321 in 2015, which is second in the country behind Morehead State’s .335. If there’s a potential Cinderella in this year’s field, Oral Roberts certainly has a great chance at being that team.
The four-seed that Oklahoma State will open against is St. John’s. The Red Storm are 39-14 this season, and won their 8th Big East Tournament Championship, which is a new record. They also come in red-hot, having won each of their last 15 games. But of course, those games came against Big East competition, which is not great in the world of baseball.
This is the kind of region that the one-seed goes out early, and either Arkansas or Oral Roberts will make it through. Not exactly a tough region overall, but it could give us a really great story if ORU advances to the Super Regionals.
