Ex-Auburn TE CJ Uzomah posts tribute to late teammate

Just under a year ago, Auburn Tigers tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen was tragically killed in a car accident.

In Lutzenkirchen’s memory, his former teammate and current Cincinnati Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah posted a loving tribute to his late friend and former teammate on his Instagram, as Monday would have been Lutzenkirchen’s 24th birthday.

Lutzenkirchen is considered to be one of the best tight ends in Auburn history and was a member of the 2010 championship team led by quarterback Cam Newton. He caught 59 passes for 628 yards and 14 touchdowns before a hip injury ended his career in 2012.

Thus, though he flew under the radar on a championship squad that featured exceptionally talented players like Newton, Nick Fairley and Michael Dyer, it’s nice to see Uzomah take the time to give his old friend and someone he obviously cared about very much a proper birthday recognition, even if he is no longer with us. Lutzenkirchen was obviously held in high regard by his teammates, and Uzomah’s post is proof of that.

On what is surely a hard day for the Lutzenkirchen family, the Campus Sports family’s thoughts are with them today.
