Crew Ainge, son of former Celtics player and current Boston GM Danny, has committed to Utah State. Ainge made the announcement on his personal Twitter page.
The 5-foot-11 point guard out of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire, about a two-hour drive away from Boston, becomes the second Utah State commit this spring.
The other is junior college transfer Shane Rector.
However, Aggies fans should prepare to not see Ainge for a while. Before heading to school, he’ll be doing a two-year Mormon mission. This means he won’t suit up in Logan until 2017.
Just the same, this gives Aggies first year head coach Tim Duryea something to look forward to in the coming years.
Utah State has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2011, and having a point guard with great basketball roots in Ainge could help the team take a step forward in the next couple of years.
Utah State went 18-13 (11-7 MWC) last year, its final under longtime coach Stew Morrill.
