BYU lands commitment from 2016 four-star forward

The BYU Cougars have just made their paint play a little bit stronger for the 2016 season. The team landed a commitment from a four-star forward and they couldn’t be more excited.

Four-star forward Gavin Baxter committed to the Cougars on Monday evening. He made the announcement via Twitter.

Rivals.com ranks the six-foot-seven Provo, Utah native as the number eighty-six overall prospect for 2016. Baxter played with the Utah Prospects, a team comprised of the best high school basketball players, during the spring and he averaged 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

Baxter’s production down low will certainly benefit the Cougars. Baxter was electric from the free throw line, shooting 75 percent, but he will have to work on his perimeter shooting as he was only 19 percent from beyond the arc.

The Cougars went 25-8 last season and lost in the WCC Championship game to Gonzaga, who eventually advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars were selected to the NCAA Tournament as an eleven seed, but fell to Ole Miss in the First Four play-in game. This was their eight Tournament appearance in nine seasons.
