Wide receiver Jared Atkinson, of Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas, near Dallas, has committed to Baylor University. Atkinson made the announcement on his personal Twitter page.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 199 pounds, Atkinson had also received offers from SMU, Illinois State, Iowa State, Texas State and Texas Tech.
His decision will now take him to Waco, with a Bears team that is in for an interesting 2015 campaign now that star quarterback Bryce Petty is with the NFL’s New York Jets. Petty threw for 3,855 yards and 29 touchdowns last year as Baylor went 11-2 (8-1 Big 12) and were conference co-champions with Texas Christian under a policy that has since been changed. After missing out on the College Football Playoff, Baylor suffered a stunning loss to Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl.
Hopefully, Atkinson can be a player that helps the Bears reach the next level and soon become recognized as a national champion.
Baylor opens the 2015 season against SMU in a game set to be played at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas on September 4.
